Kitchen Staff

Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad is currently accepting applications for skilled Kitchen Staff members to join our existing team. Kitchen staff positions may include cooks, food preppers, expediters, and dishwashers. This role helps ensure our onboard meal service provides passengers with a delicious, high-quality dining experience. All kitchen staff members will be cross-trained so the kitchen can operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. This position requires adaptability and a willingness to assist wherever needed to support successful meal service.

For example, you may be asked to assist with food preparation, clean the kitchen, wash dishes, prepare simple meals, and complete other kitchen-related tasks. To be successful in this role, you should be adaptable, hardworking, and willing to take direction. You should also be comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced and unique dining environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must use positive language and possess social awareness skills to meet the needs of customers.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Duties and Assignments:

  • Cooks maintain order and manage the preparation and service of food.

  • Cooks prepare and plate food and coordinate delivery with waitstaff.

  • Cooks monitor waitstaff in Standard Coach as well as meal-service classes of service.

  • Preppers prepare and assemble food as assigned.

  • Expediters ensure meals are plated and served according to established procedures.

  • Expediters serve as a liaison between waitstaff and lead kitchen staff.

  • Dishwashers assist with bussing tables and washing, sanitizing, drying, and restocking dishes.

  • General kitchen duties include preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing dishes, cookware, utensils, and food preparation workstations.

  • Staff must follow all food, health, and safety requirements.

  • Assist with unloading deliveries, properly storing items, and maintaining the walk-in cooler area.

  • Communicate kitchen needs to supervisors.

  • Interact with customers as needed.

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

  • Adhere to uniform policies and grooming standards, presenting a neat and professional appearance.
